BLDF Launches "Kami Memohon," Bringing Environmental Issues Closer to the Younger Generation

In commemoration of World Ozone Day, Bakti Lingkungan Djarum Foundation (BLDF) launched its fifth web series titled "Kami Memohon" at Jendela Bali Restaurant, Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park, Bali. Directed by Achmad Romie and featuring Amara Shopie, Ayya Renita, Mamang Osa, Arnold Leonard, and Dian Dipa Candra (Candil ex-Serieus), BLDF reemphasizes the vital role of trees in creating a healthy and habitable Earth.

"Trees contribute significantly to humans and all living creatures. They don’t just provide free oxygen, but they also serve as carbon storage, a function unmatched by any other living being on Earth. Engaging the younger generation in nature conservation through tree planting and care is highly appropriate. Through their involvement and the web series "Kami Memohon", the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) hopes the public, especially the younger generation, will become more aware and take initiatives in various forms of environmental and forest conservation actions. We highly appreciate what BLDF is doing," said U. Mamat Rahmat, Head of Public Relations at KLHK, represented by Arijan Prasodjo, Head of Interagency Relations at KLHK.

"Kami Memohon" follows the story of four university students, Morgan, Lestari, Asri, and Witan, who undertake Environmental Service Practice (PBL) in the village of Mohon Asri. They encounter a series of mysterious events, especially after acting irresponsibly towards the village’s trees. In their quest to undo the karma they received, the four learn valuable lessons about caring for the environment.

"Since 2020, BLDF has regularly launched web series as a form of creative communication to address environmental issues. We target the younger generation to amplify information quickly and reach a wider audience, given that the youth currently dominate our demographics. Each year, we receive positive feedback on our web series, and we hope that "Kami Memohon" will further ignite young people's awareness of environmental conservation issues," said Mutiara Diah Asmara, Director of Communications at Djarum Foundation.

The launch of the web series was also appreciated by Tjok Bagus Pemayun, Head of the Bali Provincial Tourism Office, represented by Ida Bagus Adi Laksana, Head of Tourism Destinations in Bali. He noted that BLDF’s initiative aligns with the Bali Tourism Office’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at environmental preservation. "As we all know, Bali is a world-renowned tourist destination known for its natural beauty, rich culture, and hospitality. However, preserving this beauty requires active participation from everyone. We believe that collaboration between the government, the community, and various stakeholders will lead to significant and sustainable changes," said Bagus.

Candil ex-Serieus, who plays the character Mbah Beringin, echoed this sentiment. "During the three days of shooting in the forest, the example of appreciating and caring for plants became contagious as we saw others doing the same. I hope what we learned can also be taken in by viewers after watching this web series," said Candil.

The web series *"Kami Memohon"* will air every Saturday starting September 21, 2024, at 7:00 PM WIB on the Siap Darling YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/c/Siapdarling). The web series is expected to attract viewers similar to "Prince Darling" (2020), "Jumpa" (2022), "Healing Trip" (2022), and "Pusaka" (2023), which have collectively garnered over 16 million views. BLDF will also share complete information about the web series on the Instagram account @siapdarling and with the hashtag #SiapDarling.

In addition to the web series launch, BLDF also held an environmental awareness action (Siap Darling), planting 5,000 mangrove seedlings in Pemogan, Denpasar, with 40 students from 11 universities in Bali. More than just an action, the participants involved in the *Siap Darling* movement also learned about the benefits of mangroves in absorbing carbon for the Earth.
